Try something new on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m. beginning on November 9th! High school students can see what WMCAT has to offer after school by trying a creative club or open studio. All of these opportunities are open to any high school student who lives in Kent County. See the schedule and list of opportunities below.

If you’d like to join Film Club or Artist Market 101, please fill out the interest form. Both Film Club and Artist Market are limited to 12 participants each. No need to fill out any forms if you are stopping by for studios, study space, or open common areas.

film club

Watch classic films and discuss the formal qualities, the messages, and human experiences portrayed in the films. Learn the social context in which the films were created. Share your thoughts with your peers on how films work as art and the effect this has on you. Limited to 12 students.

Learn how to create a product based on your art skills that are ready for the retail table. Learn the skills on how to keep track of your inventory, keep supply costs down, how to present your product in the best way and how to make some money from your skills. Limited to 12 students.

Design Workshops

Taught by designExplorr

Explore the power and potential of a career in design. In this hands-on workshop, learn skills like brainstorming, artistic prototyping and design-thinking. Design= workshops were developed in collaboration with Amazon, Diversify by Design, and designExplorr. Jacinda Walker, founder and creative director of designExplorr, will facilitate these workshops. She will guide workshop attendees through a creative process that encourages imagination, creativity, and critical thinking.

Do you want extra time to work on a project for your studio? Do you want to have extra time to explore different technology or techniques in your studio? Open studio time can give you that extra time to make your study project shine or to indulge your curiosity.

WMCAT will be open as a study space. Take advantage of our wifi, private study spaces, or other resources to keep up on your grades.

open common areas

If you need a time and place to relax, a place to talk with other students, play a game or just let your mind wander in the company of others, drop into our open common areas.

try a studio

Do you want to see what is going on in our art and tech studios? Instructors will prepare activities to show you what happens in their studios. A great way to get an introduction to a new way of making art.
