WMCAT was named a 2015 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award (NAHYP) Finalist by the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. This is the second consecutive year our Teen Arts + Tech Program has been recognized as one of the top 50 youth arts education programs in the country.
Through a competitive process that included 355 nominations, 50 finalists were chosen as exemplary arts and humanities-based programs for young people. The WMCAT Teen Arts + Tech Program was one of three programs recognized in Michigan, and the only in West Michigan, for providing innovative, engaging out-of-school time experiences in the arts for young people. WMCAT partners with Grand Rapids Public Schools to empower high school students through design, art and technology, giving urban teens a platform to elevate their voices and affect social change in their communities.
The other Michigan programs named as NAHYP Finalists are Matrix School of Theatre Ladders to Success and Sphinx Overture Program, both in Detroit.
