Part of human nature is to create a sense of belonging, one that can drive how and even where we live. This summer, our teens in Idea Lab, an eight-week paid creative experience, worked with Project 1 by ArtPrize to collect video interviews of Grand Rapidians on the topic of belonging. This year Project 1 is exploring the way boundaries affect our individual sense of belonging in our neighborhoods and city.
Together with WMCAT community partners, Mosaic Film Experience, Gorilla, and Carbon Stories, our teens created videos that explore diverse voices, discover what divides us, and strengthen belonging. Students learned how to effectively interview, use professional video equipment and editing software, and design in Photoshop.
