WMCAST: By Teens, For You
Podcast Production
Creativity, community, and student voice. WMCAST: By Teens, For You is a podcast created by a team of high school students in the Teen Arts + Tech Program at the West Michigan Center for Arts + Technology (WMCAT).
The inaugural season was created by teen artists in the fall 2023 WMCAST studio and includes two episodes that explore the question, “What makes you … you?” The podcast was produced from start to finish by the team of WMCAT students, with direction from their teaching artist, Brandon Copeland. Student production roles included the following:
Hosts: facilitate conversation by asking thoughtful questions, enabling insightful conversation, and providing engaging narration.
Script Writers: gather information, draft questions, identify potential guests, and outline the flow of an episode.
Recording Engineers: record, mix, and layer audio; set up mics for interviews and curate the music played during the show.
Director/Producers: project manage the different elements of production including coordinating the hosts and the recording engineer, managing timeframe and formatting, and working with the script writers to recruit the right people for interviews.
Working as a team, students learned about the various aspects of podcast production while sharing their ideas with the world through Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Tune in below!

Episode 1: Who We Are
“Welcome to our first episode of WMCAST: By Teens, For You. In this episode, we discuss our proudest moments, our pain, our heritage, our goals; the things that make us … us.”
Episode 2: Ice Cream Social
“In this episode, we expand on the question of ‘What makes you … you?’ as our host interviews students from different studios at WMCAT to answer that question, understand what brought them to the Teen Arts + Tech Program, and ask where they plan to go from here.”
