Diara Newman joined WMCAT in August of 2023 as Director of Arts + Tech. Previously, Diara served as creative director for WrightOne Media Group where she remains a producer for a forthcoming docuseries about essential women in the civil rights movement. Diara also worked at Compass College as development coordinator and at CBS News as a field producer and researcher for CBS Mornings and Face the Nation. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and also graduated from the International Black Women’s Public Policy Institute’s Dorothy I. Height Global Leadership Academy where she honed impactful leadership skills and connected with nonprofit entities focused on solving global issues. Diara is a winner of the 2022 American Black Film Festival x Warner Bros. Discovery Writers Initiative for her drama pilot script “Townhall,” and is currently a fellow at the Emma Bowen Foundation.
